From the 26th of June to the 18th July I spent 3 fortunate weeks at the Australian Institute of Sport European Training Centre, Gavirate Italy. My role was to tend to the health needs of all Australian athletes currently training and competing in Europe.

WOW WOW WOW!! What an experience!

In early July, I was fortunate enough to work on the Medical Team for the Aussieroos at the World Summer Universiade Games. They were held in Gwangju, which is 4 hours south of Seoul. It was a very clean city, with friendly people who were warm and accommodating. There were over 14,000 athletes competing from 170 nations. The atmosphere for both the opening and closing ceremonies was electrifying; something that I will always remember.

This year I became the Physio and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Men's Volleyroos-  the Australian Indoor Volleyball Team. As the team competes to earn an Olympic Qualifying Spot in Rio, I was lucky enough to follow them on this exciting journey.

Working with the Under 17 Victorian side as their physiotherapist was an absolute privilege with such a talented and fun group of girls. A team of 12 was selected last October with some players travelling from regional Victoria up to 3 hours away to train every weekend.

Physiotherapy work certainly takes you to interesting places. Over the past week one of our physio's Julia Allan worked with Canadian hip-hop superstar "Drake", while he performed in Australia.

In November and December 2014, one of our physiotherapists Peta travelled to Europe to get her physio fix for all things ballet. She travelled as physio with dancers from the Northern Territory's Ballet Company, taking the opportunity to connect with the health teams of various European dance companies and full-time dance schools.

Gordon Pritchard (physio) recently travelled as physio to the Men & Ladies Victorian Cricket Squads for the 2015 Imparja Cup - National Indigenous Cricket Tournament. He has kindly provided us with an update.

On the weekend of 28th Feb-1st March, ASMC's Sue Hogarth will be taking part in the "Weekend to End Women's Cancer". The walk is to benefit the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, providing vital funding to research and clinical care at Peter Mac. We wish Sue all the best for this important initiative and throw our support behind her.

Recently Michael Kaplan and friend of ASMC (Miranda Wallis - physio) travelled to China for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.  They went as part of the Headquaters medical team.  Between them and 2 other physios and 2 sports doctors they were responsible for maintaining 89 Australian Athletes.
