Dr. Matt Chamberlain has been over at Comm Games as part of a successful campaign in the pool with the Australian Swimming Team. They arrived in Glasgow ready to go via Manchester for a week and settled well into the athletes village....all 59 athletes (nearly 100 when you include staff and coaches!). There was a reception for the entire Australian team with the usual dignitatries, including Alexander Downer (High Commisioner to UK) and the Australian Minister for Sport.
2014 is well and truly underway. Of note, to stay on top of advances in clinical systems, we have recently installed and begun working with new appintment and payment software . While we will always endeavour to keep things as streamlined and efficient as possible, we thank you for your patience and understanding while things settle in.
As 2013 draws to a close, we'd like to wish all the Alphington Sports Med community a safe and happy Xmas and New Year. It's been a busy 2013 and as we round out the year we take this opportunity to update you all on what's making news....
Recently, John Pompei (physiotherapist) spent a month at the Australian Institute of Sport’s European Training Centre (ETC) in Gavirate, Italy. His time away was eventful and eye opening. For all of our sports enthusiast friends......this one is a great read for you! Read on....
Recently, I travelled to China with the Gems, (the U/19 Australian Women’s national basketball team). It was a four nation tour, competing against China, Brazil and the USA. Over two weeks we played in three different cities.
Our friend Adam Culvenor (physiotherapist) has been doing some fantastic research into linkages between ACL reconstruction and early onset knee arthritis. He has recently returned to Australia after completing a large portion of his PhD in Oslo, Norway. His work was recently published in the Australian Physiotherapy Association Sports Physio Magazine. Well done Adam! Another great contribution to the field!
Over the weekend of 20th-21st October, Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic was proud to host Wayne Rodgers (former physio here at the clinic) to present his unique look at strength & conditioning exercise principles and techniques. Wayne is now based in Far North Queensland, where he runs his health and wellness business "Health Adventure"
Ali Murdoch has returned from a gruelling campaign at the World Crossfit Games in the USA. The team has had great success both here in Aus and overseas. Ali's team came 9th out of 43. An amazing effort! This is the highest place finish of any Australian team.
As we round out the first half of the year, we provide you with this quick update from Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic..
- Nicole Young (massage therapist) has started at the clinic. She comes to us with great exerience across a variety of massage techniques
- Gordon Pritchard (physiotherapist) has joined the team. He is currently working at our Alphington Exercise + rehabilitation facility, supervising our clinical pilates classes on Wednesday and Friday nights. He is also our new Sunday clinician at the main clinic site.
Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic's Madeleine Ellis (physiotherapist) traveled to East Timor recently to volunteer with the East Timor Eye Program - She has been good enough to recount her exerieces for us
April of this year I was invited to travel with the East Timor Eye Program to lend assistance with a surgical eye team in Maliana, a remote town on the border of Indonesia. During my stay I was lucky enough to assist and work with the Physiotherapist at Maliana Hospital.
Adam Culvenor (physiotherapist) is currently undertaking his PhD investigating the link between knee reconstruction and arthritis of the patellofemoral joint. This blog piece is a small introduction to his study and how to be involved.
Alphington Sports Medicine's Mark Blicavs (pictured in the red singlet) has headed to Europe from ASMC to continue his dream of making the Australian Olympic Team. Despite a hectic and demanding schedule, he has taken the time to give us a valuable insight into how he balances his training with work....and some kind of a social life!
In October 2011 I was fortunate enough to sign as a rookie with the Geelong Football Club. 7 months prior to that I had just started working at Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic as a Massage Therapist and for 14 years prior to that I had just started Little Athletics at Sunbury L.A.C.
