Did you know that was it this week way back in 1981 that Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic first opened its doors!
Established by Peter and Katherine Harcourt (both still current Directors), then later joined by Jill Cook and Steve Evans (dec.), the original Clinic was in Wingrove Street, near Alphington station. It offered only Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy. At the time, Sports Medicine barely existed as a discipline and there were no guidelines as to how it should be done. Alphington was a trail blazer!
The Clinic rapidly grew into a true multi-disciplinary practice with broad professional representation and in 1985 it needed to move to larger dedicated premises - our current location at 339 Heidelberg Road, Northcote.
When we again found the need for more space, we expanded into a second building in 2010, offering Physiotherapy and Exercise Rehabilitation, across the road at number 376.
As an early birthday present to ourselves, and our patients, we brought all our services back under one roof and opened the newly renovated premises at number 339 in February this year.
And while we’re loving the larger and more modern facilities, we intend to extend the birthday celebrations with more improvements, this time to the exterior. Plans are currently being worked on for a new balcony, signage, and landscaping.
From such humble beginnings we are proud to now have around 40 expert practitioners working across more than 10 health sectors.
